How to Unlock Ethel
Ethel Joins Your Party in Chapter 3
At the beginning of Chapter 3 Ethel will join your party during the Hero Quest: No Want of Courage, assisting you during battle.
No Want of Courage Walkthrough
Only Available During the Hero Mission
Although the Flash Fencer Class is available for other party member to change into once Ethel joins your party, you will no longer be able to use the hero once you complete No Want of Courage.
Eventually, you will be able make ethel rejoin the party, but you will first have to complete a few prerequisites during Chapter 6 of the game.

Ethel Strengths and Weaknesses
Strengths
Ethel specializes in Attacking enemies with devastating Arts, which makes her a great Hero for players who want to defeat enemies quickly. She is also the first class you unlock which excels at inflicting critical attacks, making her a formidable force against low-level enemies.
Weaknesses
Ethel will be absent from your party for majority of your playthrough since you cannot recruit her as a hero again until Chapter 6. Though she can be a significant asset for the final bosses, she cannot help you out with the other tough enemies in the game.
Due to her mediocre defenses, Ethel also often finds herself overwhelmed when facing tougher enemies and Bosses without proper defensive support.
Ascension Quest Unlock Conditions: How to Make Ethel Rejoin the Party
Rank Up Seraph and Flash Fencer to 10
Before you can make ethel rejoin the party, you first need unlock the Seraph class by completing Cammuravi's Hero Quest: A Twist of Fate.
Once completed, rank up both the Seraph and Flash Fencer classes all the way to 10. You can do this quickly using Nopon Coins.
Head to the Lab in Colony Omega
Once you've met the conditions above, head to Colony Omega and enter the lab. At the very back of the lab is a door. Interact with the door to trigger a cutscene.
At the end of the cutscene, the game will ask you if you'd like Ethel to “undergo the maturation process”. Select Yes to add Ethel back to your party.
Unlocks Rank 20 for Flash Fencer and Seraph
After getting Ethel back as a Hero, you also unlock Rank 20 for both the Flash Fencer and Seraph classes, so this also acts as Ethel and Cammuravi's Ascension Quest.

With proper Healing support and Defender, Ethel can make quick work of enemies with Accleration, since it give her more opportunities to attack during battle. While Swallowtail and Million Flash allows you to make use of Ethel's offensive capabilities in a much more reserved manner.
